By common consent, Jóhannes Sveinsson Kjarval (1885–1972) is the greatest painter Iceland has produced, as well as the most Icelandic in temperament.
This book contains 37 works by Kjarval in various media and is produced with the co-operation of the Reykjavík Art Museum.
Text by: Aðalsteinn Ingólfsson (b. 1948) holds a master’s degree in literature and language history from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and a master’s degree in art history from the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. Ingólfsson has worked at the Reykjavík Art Museum and the National Gallery of Iceland. He has also taught at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and has been active as an art critic and a cultural editor in Icelandic media.
