The Skagen Painters were a group of Scandinavian artists who came together around the turn of the twentieth century in Skagen, Denmark’s northernmost point, where two oceans meet. They formed a particular school of painting, inspired by the unique quality of light at Skagen.
This book contains 37 works by the most important Skagen Painters, as well as a short introduction by Holger Koefoed.
Text by: Holger Koefoed (b. 1945) holds a degree in art history from the University of Oslo. He has written books on Norwegian and Nordic art. He has also worked at the Norwegian National Gallery and the National Museum of Contemporary Art, both in Oslo. Koefoed is currently an associate professor at the National College of Art and Design, Oslo.
